The Director

Today was another rehearsal for "Cinderella" and it's only 19 days to our opening night.

I have just received an email from the President and Director of our amateur dramatic group which was sent to all the cast and says:

"Thanks so much for a very enjoyable and productive day. This is going to be a very good show and it still makes me laugh. Please remember next week to bring all your personal props and once again, thanks for making me feel proud of your efforts and proud of our Association"

I think it's very important for cast members to feel appreciated and valued.

That's very encouraging - it is nice to be appreciated. People often forget how much time it takes to take part in these shows!

Yes Marian, it is great when your efforts are recognised, some one has taken the trouble.

Break a leg.

Incidentally, don't think that I ever saw a video of last years performance.

  Oh last year's panto was much too long - it runs to two DVDs

As writer, producer, director and star, I always give myself a pat on the back!

Seriously, my lot were a democratic bunch and were always full of praise and encouragement for each other.

  The cast are always supportive but often the production team are busy overseeing it and forget to give due credit. I think this is more important when those taking part aren't getting paid for doing it

  ps - talking about writing - do you have any old scripts that a small group of ex-pats in France could have a play with? (No pun intended!)

    I have found a couple of my old scripts that might be appropriate for your group.
    
    " 'Allo 'Allo" (1989) and "Last of the Summer Wine" (1993). They were popular on TV at the time but may not be so relevant now. Each sketch lasts 10-15 minutes.
    
    They were also written for a sports club audience, so they contain many references to the game of squash, and the names of prominent officers of the club, which would be meaningless to another audience. The names could always be changed to suit your group or local personalities etc.
    
    If pressed I could post some short extracts on here to give you a flavour. If you wanted the full script of either sketch I could only send you photocopies of the originals through the mail.
    
    I would be delighted if you could use the material, adapted any way you see fit, as long as I get an appropriate credit, a copy of the final script as a keepsake, and some photos of the performance.

        Weird or what? I've just had an email from someone asking me if I'd be interested in joining another theatre group who are putting on 'Allo, 'Allo next Spring. Casting will be in February.
